Lebanon Crisis: After the pager blast in Lebanon and the attack on Israeli checkpoints by Hezbollah, the US is now working on a plan to evacuate about 50,000 Americans from Lebanon to Cyprus. The US has expressed apprehension that Israel is close to starting a ground war in Lebanon.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed concern in a meeting with officials that Israel “may soon launch an offensive.” The US newspaper Wall Street Journal reported that Israel has deployed a military contingent of thousands of special forces and paratroopers from the south to the north of the country. These soldiers had already been fighting in the Gaza Strip for months.

Pagers banned at Lebanese airport

On September 17 and 18, several people were killed and thousands injured in explosions carried out using pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon. Following these incidents, the use of pagers and walkie-talkies has been banned on all flights departing from Rafic Hariri Airport in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Lebanon’s state news agency NNA quoted the aviation agency as saying that passengers have been requested not to bring devices such as pagers or walkie-talkies with them. If such devices are found with them, they will be immediately confiscated.

The pager manufacturing company backed out

Icom, the Japanese company that made the pagers that exploded in Lebanon recently, has said that the pager models that exploded have not been manufactured for the past ten years. Icom said that model IC-V 82 was exported to the Middle East countries between 2004 and 2014. But since 2014, their export has stopped and production has also stopped. Talking about the reason for the explosion, the company said that they do not know what could have been the reason behind the blast.
