PAN-Aadhaar Link Date Extended Again: All you need to know

The deadline for PAN-Aadhaar link was March 31, 2023 earlier has now been changed again. Here are all the details you need to know;

PAN-Aadhaar Link News: The deadline for linking Broad Type of Permanent Account (PAN) cards to Aadhaar cards has been extended to June 30, 2023. From July 1, 2023, all unlinked PAN cards will become invalid, the finance ministry said in a notice on Tuesday.

“This will provide some more time for taxpayers, the linking date of PAN to Aadhaar has been extended until June 30, 2023, when people can notify their Aadhaar to designated agencies for Aadhaar-PAN linking without facing to legal criticism,” said the opinion of the Compulsory Direct Taxes Commission.

What are the Consequences of not linking PAN with Aadhaar?

If the PAN card is not linked to an Aadhaar card before June 30, 2023, the PAN card will not work, the finance ministry said. Apart from,

(i) No refund will be made towards such PANs;

(ii) Interest shall not be payable on such refund for the duration at some point of which PAN remains inoperative.

(iii) TDS and TCS will be deducted /amassed at a higher charge, as furnished within the Act.

In advance, the deadline for linking PAN cards and Aadhaar cards is March 31, 2023. A recent tweet from the Department of Income Tax said: “Under the Computers Act 1961 all PAN holders are required to register their linked PAN to use Aadhaar by March 31, 23.

Even the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is asking investors in advance to ensure that their PAN card is linked to their Aadhaar by 31st March 2023 otherwise investors will not be able to transact on the financial markets like NSE and BSE. It sends repeated reminders to everyone to ensure important connections are made.

The income-tax department of India proposed to link Aadhaar cards with PAN cards to address the difficulty of duplication of PAN cards. Earlier, the IT department recognized cases wherein one person had a couple of PANs.

How to check PAN-Aadhaar link status?

People can test their PAN-Aadhaar link status through the income tax e-filing portal or by sending a SMS.

  1. Open the Income Tax portal’s landing page. Click Below:
  2. Click on “Link Aadhaar” option on the left side menu bar shown below;

  3. If the linking process is enabled, the taxpayer will receive this message. “Your Linked Aadhaar-PAN request has been sent to UIDAI for verification.” After that, verify it by clicking the link “Link Aadhaar Status” on the same webpage.
  4. Once done, a confirmation message will appear on the screen. On the other hand, you will also receive an OTP for the phone number you have registered with your Aadhaar.

PAN-Aadhaar Link via SMS?

You can also check PAN-Aadhaar link by sending a SMS.

To do so- send UIDPAN <12 digit Aadhaar number> <10 digit PAN number> to 567678 or 56161. If your Aadhaar is linked with PAN you would receive a confirmation SMS saying the same.

How to link PAN with Aadhaar?
