Pakistan: ASWJ member attacked, shot dead by unknown person

Pakistan Latest News: A member of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) has been killed in Karachi, Pakistan. The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Taj who was attacked by unknown assailants in Gulberg.

By the way, this is not the first time that a leader of this organization has been attacked. In early December 2023, local ASWJ leader Bilal Murshid (30) was fired upon in Karachi and during that time he was injured. According to the report of Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn’, bike-riding attackers had opened fire targeting them in Godhra area of Sector 11-G. He was hit by 5 bullets during the attack. He was immediately taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where he was later shifted to Liaquat National Hospital in a critical condition. It was then claimed by the ASWJ spokesperson that it was a kind of target attack. It was alleged that the present government was failing to maintain peace and order in the city.

According to the report of ‘BBC’, ASWJ was first banned by Pakistani leader General Pervez Musharraf in 2002. The people of this group supporting Al Qaeda are known as Sipah-e-Sahaba (SSP) or Soldiers of the Companions of the Prophet. These people are accused of killing thousands of Shia Muslims. However, the head of the group termed the ban as absurd. However, other minorities, security targets and embassies have been targeted by this group of people.

According to the news of ‘The Diplomat’, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat is a banned communal organization which has been accused of spreading anti-Shia hatred for decades. In the 1990s, the group was accused of carrying out high-profile attacks during which it targeted Shia scholars, mosques and congregations.
