The central government had stopped DA for 18 months during the Corona period. At that time the employees did not raise any voice. They supported the government in the disaster. After that, when the economy came back on track, the government refused to give the arrears of DA of 18 months to the employees. In April 2024, GST collection crossed the figure of Rs 2 lakh crore. There was a record collection of GST in April 2023 as well. In October 2023, January 2024 and March 2024 also, GST collection crossed the level of Rs 1.7 lakh crore.
SB Yadav, general secretary of the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers, says that on July 19, government employees will protest during lunch time over their pending demands. Restoration of old pension, formation of eighth pay commission and filling 10-12 lakh vacant posts in the central government, Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers has placed seven such demands before the government.
According to SB Yadav, the employees had fully supported the government during the Corona period. Since the country was battling a disaster, the employees remained silent. The government had stopped the DA of the employees citing the poor pace of the economy. By stopping the payment of DA, the government saved Rs 34,402.32 crore. After that the economy came back on track. The government trumpeted to the world that the country’s economy has picked up pace. GST collection is increasing by 11 percent year after year. In such a situation, when the government was requested to give the arrears of DA for 18 months, the government refused. The arrears of DA for 18 months is the right of the employees.
