Opposition parties said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should pay heed to the advice of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Manipur. He should visit Manipur where violence has been going on for more than a year. Bhagwat had said a day earlier that Manipur has been waiting for peace for a year and the situation in the violence-hit state should be considered on priority.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that perhaps after Mohan Bhagwat’s statement, PM Modi should now visit Manipur. He wrote in a social media post, if the conscience of a third Prime Minister or the repeated demand of the people of Manipur has not gone, then perhaps Bhagwat can release the former RSS official to visit Manipur. He further wrote, remember 22 years ago Vajpayee had asked Modi to fulfill Rajdharma.

‘Listen to Bhagwat, not the opposition’

Independent MP Kapil Sibal said, it is not in PM Modi’s DNA to pay heed to the advice of the opposition, but he should pay heed to the words of the RSS chief. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said that the Sangh chief took too long to express concern over the Manipur violence. The Prime Minister has remained silent on every crisis, whether it is the violence in the northeastern state, or the protests of farmers and women wrestlers in Delhi.

Gogoi said- I don’t expect PM to pay attention

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said in a social media post, RSS chief Bhagwat has suggested considering the situation in Manipur on priority, but it is not expected that the PM will pay heed to his suggestion but will ignore it. He will misuse central agencies and try to change the Indian Constitution. Thankfully, people have chosen India Alliance to speak on their behalf and protect the Indian Parliament and Constitution.

Supriya Sule welcomed the statement

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule welcomed Bhagwat’s statement and suggested sending an all-party committee to Manipur. She said, I welcome his statement. Manipur is an integral part of India. And when we see our people suffering so much, it is extremely disturbing for all of us. This is something we have been demanding, India Alliance has been demanding for a long time that let’s discuss. Form a good committee with all parties. Guns do not solve everything, you also need love and compassion and empathy.
