New Delhi. Now only a few days are left for the first match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The first test match is to be played at Optus Stadium in Perth. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has made a big claim before this series. He has described the 27-year-old Indian star as the best Test batsman of the team after Virat Kohli. Ganguly ignored young Yashasvi Jaiswal and Indian captain Rohit Sharma and called Rishabh Pant special.

The former Indian captain warned that Pant still needs to improve in limited overs cricket but he is amazing in Tests. Ganguly said, “He has a special ability. He still needs to develop and understand his game in white-ball cricket, but in red-ball, he is fantastic. Look at the innings played by him in England, Australia and South Africa and you will know. Rishabh Pant is an amazing batsman in red-ball cricket. He is India’s next best red-ball batsman after Kohli and can make a big impact in this series.”

Pant played an important role in India’s victory in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia in the last two tours. During the 2018-19 tour, he scored 350 runs in four matches. He became the second highest run scorer in the series. Rishabh Pant had a century innings to his name. In 2020-21, he scored 274 runs in five innings and became India’s highest run-scorer. Rishabh Pant played memorable innings in Sydney and Gabba.

Eye on World Test Championship final

The Indian cricket team is eyeing a place in the ICC World Test Championship final for the third consecutive time. After the defeat at home against New Zealand, it has become necessary for India to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy. By winning 4 out of 5 matches, Team India can secure the ticket for the final. If there is a defeat in the series then it will have to depend on the results of other teams.
