The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at many places in search of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, but he was not found. A top government official said that an unprecedented situation has arisen in the state. No one knows where the Chief Minister is. In the current situation, instructions have been issued to keep an eye on law and order in case of any incident.
At the same time, Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan said that being the guardian of the Constitution, I am keeping an eye on the situation in the state in view of the ED’s summons to Chief Minister Hemant Soren. This is the duty of the Governor. I will cross the line if necessary. He rejected the possibility of imposing President’s rule in the state and said that these are just speculations. On ED’s summon to Soren, he said that no one is above the law. If the Chief Minister is not answering today, he will have to answer tomorrow. Meanwhile, Soren has emailed the investigating agency asking them to come to the CM residence in Ranchi for questioning on January 31 at 1 pm.
Abuse of powers: Soren
In a letter to the ED on Sunday, Soren accused the investigating agency of being motivated by political agenda to disrupt the functioning of the state government. He claimed that the request to re-record his statement on or before January 31 is malicious. Issuing summons to him is completely disturbing and an abuse of the powers conferred by law.
Not being at home means not running away: family
Without disclosing his identity, Hemant’s family said, not being at home does not mean running away. This is not a warrant that they have to be available. He is in Delhi and will reach Ranchi soon. His health is fine and he was busy with his work in Delhi.
Ran away out of fear: BJP
Jharkhand State BJP President Babulal Marandi claimed that due to fear of ED, Hemant Soren has escaped from his Delhi residence and gone underground. He wrote on social media that according to media sources, late on Sunday night, CM Soren, wearing slippers and covering his face with a sheet, ran away from his residence on foot like a thief. Special Branch security personnel Ajay Singh, who went with him to Delhi, is also missing.
