Pilibhit: Generally, jails or army cantonments, airports or other sensitive places are equipped with high security arrangements. But if you are told that there is a railway station in UP where fencing has been done up to a radius of one kilometre, then you will definitely be surprised. There is a station in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh where several feet high chain link fencing has been done all around the station. This railway station is a Mala railway station falling on Pilibhit Lucknow railway section.

Till a few years ago, Pilibhit-Lucknow railway section used to be connected through meter gauge. But with the passage of time, gauge conversion work was done on this railway section. Now this railway line is connected to Lucknow by broad gauge. This railway section passes through the dense forests of Mala Range of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. In such a situation, the work of gauge conversion was affected for many years. After the matter remained in abeyance for many years, the work on this approximately 10 kilometer long railway section could be completed smoothly after several conditions including construction of underpass for easy movement of wildlife in the forest. Rail service has started on this railway section some time ago.

Trains operate with these conditions
Let us tell you that Pilibhit’s Mala Railway Station is situated in the middle of dense Sal forests. The population density of wildlife in this forest range is also quite high. In such a situation, many precautions are taken for the safety of passengers and wildlife coming to the railway station. Trains pass on this railway section at a speed of only 10 kilometers per hour. To prevent wildlife from entering the railway station premises as well as the railway station passengers from the forest, the station has been covered with a 9 feet high chain link fence for about 1 kilometer from all sides.
