A downtown Naperville restaurant will not be able to offer valet parking services.
City council members on Tuesday denied a request from AltaVida, 16 W. Jefferson Ave., for a valet transfer station in front of the restaurant. The council also unanimously supported a resolution banning valet parking transfer zones along Jefferson Avenue between Washington and Main streets.
Representatives for the restaurant said there is a “viable demand” for valet service, highlighting that 60% of restaurant patrons they surveyed said they had a difficult time finding parking. They added that those looking to book private events at the restaurant also have asked for valet service.
Noting that a parking deck is nearby, Councilwoman Jennifer Bruzan Taylor said she could not support the request.
“There is literally right there a parking deck, not even a 15-second drive away,” said Bruzan Taylor, adding the Downtown Naperville Alliance opposed the request. “It does not make any sense to have this.”
She and other council members also argued that a backup of two cars at the valet transfer station could cause traffic congestion on Washington Street, located just east of the restaurant.
In other action, city council members amended the city’s liquor code to allow for the package sale of craft beer or cider manufactured by the license holder. The change was made following a request from Miskatonic Brewing Company in the city’s downtown district.
