According to researchers, in 2022, a new type of monkeypox spread to more than 110 countries. It affected mostly gay and bisexual men. The virus, formerly known as monkeypox, was a Clade II strain. But the Clade I strain outbreak is 10 times more deadly than this. It has been a regular occurrence in Africa, first detected in DR Congo in 1970. In other countries, the virus spread through sexual intercourse, while in Africa most people fell victim to Clade I by eating animal meat.
New strain of ampox spreading through casual sex
Researcher Claude Udahemuka gave information about the new ampox in an online press conference. He said that the ampox outbreak found among sex workers in Kamituga, a remote mining area town in Congo, in September last year was different from the earlier ampox. Earlier in the Central African country, the virus was spreading through homosexual sex, but new research found that the new strain of ampox is spreading through sex between heterosexuals.
New virus has bad effect on women
Researchers found that the new strain is very dangerous because it is spreading among people through normal sexual relations. Its worst effect is on women and children. Due to this strain, women are having miscarriages and the percentage of child deaths is increasing.
