MP many colleges GST dues from 2017 Medical Science University lost Rs 22 crores ANN

MP Colleges GST Dues: For Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (MP Medical Science University), GST recovery of Rs 22 crore has become a noose around the neck. The university has paid this amount after the notice of Goods and Service Tax, but now it is sweating to recover this amount from affiliated colleges across the state.

Let us tell you that Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, Jabalpur gives affiliation to government and private medical colleges, dental colleges, BAMS colleges, nursing colleges and para medical colleges across the state. The university has been lenient in collecting GST amount from the affiliated colleges, due to which GST of many colleges is pending since July 1, 2017.

The university deposited Rs 22 crore from its treasury

Due to the confusion about GST in the field of higher education and the arguments of the college operators, there was no strictness in depositing GST in the current cases. Due to this leniency of the officials in the past, the financial burden of the outstanding GST of the colleges has now increased on the university. It is coming to light that many colleges have not paid GST since the beginning. At the same time, after the warning of penalty by the GST department, the university has deposited Rs 22 crore from its treasury.

Notice will be issued to all colleges

University Registrar Dr. Pushpraj Singh Baghel told ABP Live that a committee has been formed to assess how much amount is to be recovered from which college. A five-member committee headed by the Finance Controller will assess the outstanding payment related to GST within 10 days. Only after this, notices will be issued to all the colleges.

It is being said that the committee formed by the university will investigate the affiliation fees paid by each college from 1 July 2017 till now, so that it can be known which college has paid the GST amount on the affiliation fee every year as per the rules. It is being told that about 450 colleges and institutes across the state are affiliated to the university, from which GST related amount of crores of rupees has not been received.
