Anupriya Patel: Three people were arrested on Tuesday after Union Minister Anupriya Patel intervened in the case of alleged attack on an Apna Dal (Sonelal) worker in Mirzapur and attempt to kidnap her daughter. The minister had given an ‘ultimatum’ of two hours to the police to take action. She also questioned the police’s policy of zero tolerance for criminals and told officials that if action was not taken, she would take up the matter with the Chief Minister.

In fact, on the night of 18th November, some people had entered the house of Sector President of Apna Dal, Ajay Patel, in Kuraihi village under Gopura Chowki in Vindhyachal police station area, attacked him and his wife Bindu and tried to kidnap their daughter. A family member of Ajay Patel said that the accused beat up Ajay in an inebriated state and tried to rape his daughter.

Anupriya Patel had given ultimatum to the police

When Union Minister Anupriya Patel came to know about the incident, she went to the hospital to meet her party worker, called the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and criticized the Vindhyachal Police for alleged negligence in the matter. Making sharp remarks, he accused the police of being busy promoting drug trafficking and questioned the police’s commitment to the policy of ‘zero tolerance’ for crime.

Alleging negligence in the matter, Anupriya Patel asked, ‘Is this the zero tolerance policy that we claim to follow? After his strict warning, Vindhyachal Police immediately registered a case and arrested three of the seven accused. Vindhyachal Police Station Inspector CP Pandey confirmed the matter and said that an FIR has been registered on the basis of the viral video.

Akhilesh Yadav also raised questions

Commenting on this matter, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav said on ‘X’, ‘When it came to our worker, the honorable minister of BJP had to ask, ‘Where is the government that talks about zero tolerance’. They should have asked, ‘Where is the double engine government?’ By the way, perhaps she forgot that her own people are also part of the government.

He said, ‘Now it remains to be seen whether the officers will bear the brunt of the expose of the police and medical system of Uttar Pradesh or whether the minister or his people become its victims. Today the Minister herself is asking: Is anyone there?
