Milind Deora’s first speech in Rajya Sabha as Shiv Sena MP on Murli Deora Bal Thackeray

Milind Deora’s speech in Rajya Sabha: Milind Deora, leader of the Shinde faction in Maharashtra, gave his first speech in the Rajya Sabha as a Shiv Sena MP on Friday (28 June). During this, he recalled the relationship between Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and his father Murli Deora. In his speech, he mentioned how party founder Bal Thackeray had supported his father Murli Deora to become the mayor of Mumbai 47 years ago and now the same party sent him to the Upper House at the age of 47.

Milind Deora said, “In many ways, life has come a full circle because in 1977, 47 years ago, late Balasaheb Thackeray supported my late father to become the Mayor of Mumbai. And today 47 years later, at the age of 47, he is the President of Shiv Sena and Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Eknath Shinde has enabled me to represent Mumbai and Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha.”

My father taught me loyalty towards my country first- Milind Deora

According to a PTI report, the newly elected Shiv Sena MP remembered his late father and Congress leader Murli Deora, who passed away during his tenure as a Rajya Sabha member. He always taught me to stand up for myself and put loyalty to my country before loyalty to the party. Deora said in his first speech in the Upper House during the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address, “I am sure that today he is with me to guide me in the new journey.”

He left Congress and joined Shiv Sena

Earlier this year in January, Deora had quit the Congress and joined the Shiv Sena, ending his family’s 55-year-old association with the party. Deora said he has returned to Parliament after a decade and apart from the new building, a lot has changed since then. On the President’s address, he said it has a clear outline of the government’s plans for the next five years and highlights the achievements of the last 10 years.
