MP News Today: Medha Patkar, who leads the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA), on Saturday (14 September) alleged that due to the rising water level of the Sardar Sarovar dam, water has entered the villages. Medha Patkar said that she has held a meeting in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh regarding this. "Water Satyagraha" started.

In small Kasaragod "Water Satyagraha" At the site, Medha Patkar claimed that the water level of Sardar Sarovar dam was being increased illegally in violation of Central Water Commission’s rules and regulations. She said that due to this, representatives of various villages, especially women from Barwani and Dhar districts gathered to protest.

‘Thousands of houses destroyed due to water release’
Medha Patkar alleged that "Thousands of houses have been destroyed due to the water, failure to control the gates of Sardar Sarovar dam in time and release of water from Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dams." They said that "The water level of Sardar Sarovar Dam has reached 135 to 136 meters. The gates of Omkareshwar Dam were opened on Friday night."

Medha Patkar made these allegations
Patakar said that in such a situation all the gates of Sardar Sarovar Dam should have been opened and the water level should have been managed at 122 meters. She claimed that houses were destroyed not only due to excessive rain but also due to the rise in water level.

Social activist Medha Patkar said that "Due to this, people of Maharashtra and Gujarat have also been affected." They said that "Agricultural land was neither acquired nor was any rehabilitation carried out in the area."

The activist claimed that houses and agricultural land were similarly destroyed in more than 170 villages in the Sardar Sarovar area due to rising water levels during last year’s monsoon.
