Mani Shankar Aiyar on Pakistan: Amid the election season, a political battle has been witnessed over a statement by senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar. When a part of his old interview went viral on social media platforms on Friday (May 10, 2024), people started seeing it as his love for Pakistan.
Mani Shankar Iyer was seen saying in this clip – India should respect Pakistan. That’s because he has an atom bomb! If our country does not respect the neighboring country then they can think of using that bomb.
There is a need to remove Narendra Modi – Mani Shankar Aiyer had said
This kind of statement from a senior Congress leader is nothing new. He has advocated for Pakistan before also. Not only this, in the year 2015 he also spoke ill of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Pakistan. Mani Shankar Aiyar had then said during a panel discussion on ‘Duniya TV’ that if the dialogue between the two countries has to continue, then PM Modi needs to be removed.
The question was related to improving relations between India and Pakistan.
On behalf of the anchor, Mani Shankar Aiyar was asked, “What should be done to stop the deadlock between the two countries?” The reply from the Congress leader was – The first and most important step Narendra Modi has to be removed. Only after removing them is further dialogue possible. We will have to wait for four more years. They (panelists) are all optimistic and when Modi Saheb is there, we can move forward but I do not think so.
“Remove PM Modi, bring Congress to power…there is no other option”
The Congress leader had further said, “Bring us (Congress) back to power and remove them. There is no other option. We will remove them but till then you (Pakistan) will have to wait.
The statement went viral, everyone from BJP to RJD surrounded him badly.
This statement of Mani Shankar Aiyar had gone viral and other parties had cornered the Congress by making it an issue. When Congress leader Tom Vaddkan was asked about this statement, he said – This is complete nonsense. I have a letter from Mani Shankar Aiyar, in which he has clearly denied saying anything like this. In such a situation, there is no point in distancing oneself from this question.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had termed this statement of the Congress leader as extremely worrying and completely wrong. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Manoj Jha had said – even a child studying in KG would not say such a thing.
