A manhunt is under way after a man escaped custody from a prison in west London, the Metropolitan Police have said.

Graham Gomm, 63, eluded prison staff after being taken to Hammersmith Hospital from HMP Wormwood Scrubs after falling ill.

He had been on remand for burglary offences, the Met said.

Police were alerted of Gomm’s escape at around 01.18am on 18 July. He was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt and grey tracksuit.

The Met said officers are currently carrying out searches, working closely with partners, conducting CCTV inquiries and have visited a number of addresses linked to Gomm.

Anyone who sees Gomm has been asked not to approach him and call 999.
