A man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian.

William Brown, 81, was crossing Bathgate Road in Blackburn while using a walking frame when he was struck by a motorcycle at around 7.15pm on 12 July.

Mr Brown, also known as Bill and from the West Lothian town, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but died on 16 July.

In an update on Tuesday, Police Scotland said a 38-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the case.

The suspect has been released and will appear in court at a later date.

In a statement previously released via the force, Mr Brown’s family said: “We as a family are totally devastated at the loss of Bill, former janitor at St Kentigern’s Academy.

“Bill was a loving family man who was a well-known and respected member of the local community.”
