Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, in his response to the motion of thanks on the President’s speech, called it completely paperwork and unsuccessful in addressing social issues. He said that he was deeply disappointed by the President’s speech. Kharge fiercely targeted PM Modi and the NDA government. Kharge criticized Modi for his election speeches and also made allegations against the RSS, the ideological parent of the ruling BJP.

However, most of his comments were expunged from the proceedings by Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Dhankhar said that RSS is an organization working for the nation. Kharge referred to Modi’s comments in election rallies and presented a figure of how many times he took the name of minorities and Pakistan. The Chairman asked him to prove his claims and refused to accept the newspaper clippings shown by the Congress leader. On this, P Chidambaram also spoke in support of Kharge but the Chairman ignored him too.

Is it a crime to be a member of any organization: Dhankhar

Kharge made some allegations against the RSS regarding the country’s education system. On this, Dhankhar said, the comments have been removed because it is not appropriate to accuse the RSS, an organization engaged in nationalist activities. Is it a crime to be a member of any organization? You are saying that a particular person is a member of the RSS, is this a crime in itself? The Sangh is an organization working for the nation.

Criticising the policies of the central government, he stressed the need for equality and inclusion. During the discussion in the Lok Sabha on the motion of thanks to the President’s address, Raja stressed the need for a caste-based census and argued that real unification of Hindus can be achieved only by acknowledging and resolving caste inequalities.
