Maharashtra Shivsena UBT Congress tussle over MLC Elections 2024 Uddhav Thackeray left Konkan seat

Maharashtra MLC Elections 2024: Congress accused Uddhav Thackeray of unilaterally announcing the names of candidates for the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. A day later, an agreement was reached between the two parties on Wednesday. Now Shiv Sena (UBT) will contest on four seats and Congress on one seat. The biennial election voting for the four seats of the Legislative Council, Mumbai Graduate Constituency, Konkan Graduate Constituency, Mumbai Teachers Constituency and Nashik Teachers Constituency, will be held on June 26. The results will be declared on July 1.

The term of the current members from these constituencies is ending in July. Wednesday was the last date for withdrawal of applications for these elections. According to the seat sharing between the two components of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Shiv Sena (UBT) will contest from Mumbai Graduate Constituency, Mumbai Teachers Constituency and Nashik Teachers Constituency. While Congress will field a candidate from Konkan Graduate Constituency.

After protests, Uddhav left the Konkan seat
On Tuesday, Congress’ Maharashtra state president Nana Patole expressed displeasure over Uddhav Thackeray’s unilateral announcement of Shiv Sena (UBT) candidates from the Konkan Graduates and Nashik Teachers constituencies. He also demanded the withdrawal of their candidature. Thackeray said in a press conference on Wednesday that there is no disagreement in the opposition MVA regarding the candidates for the elections to four seats of the Legislative Council.

The MVA comprises Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP). Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that the Congress will contest from the Konkan Graduates constituency and Kishore Jain of the Uddhav Thackeray-led party has been asked to withdraw his nomination from that seat. Congress’s Ramesh Keer will contest from the Konkan Graduates constituency. Sanjay Raut said that after discussions among the MVA constituents, it was decided that the Congress will withdraw nominations from the Nashik Teachers and Mumbai Graduates constituencies.
