maharashtra mlc election uddhav thackeray to field candidate

Maharashtra News: Uddhav Thackeray’s party will field its candidate in the election for 11 seats of the Legislative Council. This was announced by Thackeray himself on Thursday. Uddhav Thackeray said that the opposition has done its maths right to get its candidate elected. Voting for 11 seats of the Legislative Council is to be held on July 12.

This will be the first time after the split in Shiv Sena and NCP that MLAs will vote for the Legislative Council elections. Uddhav Thackeray said, “We will field a candidate in the council elections because there are 11 seats and every party (NCP-SP, Shiv Sena-UBT and Congress) can win one seat each. Our votes are fixed. There is no need to speak about our equation in public. There is no need to tell how we will win the elections. Our math is correct.” His statement has increased speculations of cross voting.

The term of 11 councillors is ending
Former CM Thackeray said that it is difficult for the ruling coalition to keep its MLAs together. Let us tell you that 11 councillors who were elected for six years were chosen by the assembly members. Their term is ending on 27 July. This election is going to be held before the assembly elections to be held in October this year.

Cross voting took place in 2022
The total number of seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is 288, out of which 14 seats are vacant. With this, the current number is 274. Every candidate needs the support of 23 MLAs to win. Ajit Pawar’s NCP has 41 MLAs, Eknath Shinde Congress has 40 MLAs and BJP has 103 MLAs. Congress has 37 MLAs while Shiv Sena-UBT has 13 and NCP-SP has 15 MLAs. NCP-SP will support Peasants and Workers Party leader Jayant Patil. Let us tell you that in the 2022 assembly elections, Chandrakant Handore of Congress lost despite having sufficient number of MLAs because there was cross voting during that time.
