Maharashtra Government announced compensation for the families of Deceased in Bhushi Dam Accident in Lonavala

Lonavala Waterfall Accident: The Maharashtra Assembly was told on Wednesday that the families of five persons who died due to accidental drowning near Bhushi dam in Lonavala will be given financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar made this announcement and said that warning strips will be installed at dangerous tourist spots and restricted areas to avoid such incidents in future. A woman and four children died after being swept away in a waterfall near Bhushi Dam in Lonavala, a popular hill station in Pune.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Chetan Tupe had raised the issue in the Assembly. Pawar, the guardian minister of Pune district, assured that district planning committees in all 36 districts will be directed to put up boards at dangerous places and consider additional safety measures like nylon nets and barricades.

Pawar said, ‘The families of those who died in the Lonavala incident will be given Rs 5 lakh each as financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.’
