Lucknow News: The youth who threw acid on a student in Lucknow on Wednesday morning was arrested by the police after an encounter late at night. In the encounter with the police that took place at midnight, the accused Abhishek Verma was shot in the leg. After this, he was admitted to the hospital. The accused Abhishek Verma threw acid on the face of the BBA student on Wednesday morning when she was going to KGMU for counseling with her cousin. This incident took place near Lohia Park in Chowk area at 8:00 am when the student and her brother were standing on the road, during this time a young man came and threw acid on the student.
After the incident, both the siblings were admitted to KGMU hospital in Lucknow, where they were being treated in the plastic surgery ward. According to the doctor, a part of the girl’s face has been badly burnt. Her brother’s back has been burnt. After this incident, the girl’s family lodged a complaint at Chowk police station. After this, the police formed four teams to arrest the suspect and started investigation on the basis of CCTV footage.
What did DCP Durgesh Kumar say about the arrest?
According to DCP West Durgesh Kumar, at around 1:00 in the night, information was received that the accused was hiding near Gulala Ghat. After this, when the police reached the spot to nab him, instead of surrendering, he opened fire on the police, in which the accused got shot in the right leg in retaliation. During interrogation, the police came to know that the accused is a resident of Lakhimpur, his name is Abhishek Verma.
After the incident, the student told the police that when she was standing with her brother, a boy tried to talk to her. The brother and sister chased him away but the boy went a little further and came back and threw acid on the girl. While trying to intervene, her brother also got hit by acid. The family members told the police that for the past few days, a boy was harassing the student by calling her.
