Lok Sabha Elections 2024: More than 65 per cent voting in all seven phases

With the seventh and final phase of voting amid heavy violence in West Bengal, the marathon election process for the 18th Lok Sabha has been completed. In the last phase on Saturday, 62.36 percent votes were cast in 57 seats of seven states and one union territory. 55.59% voting took place in UP. In this phase, 904 candidates including Prime Minister Narendra Modi were in the fray. At the same time, a total of 64.98 percent voting took place in all seven phases. In the 2019 elections, 67.4 percent voting took place in all the phases.

Ruling Trinamool Congress and BJP workers clashed in Sandeshkhali of Basirhat seat of Bengal on the allegation of disturbance during voting. Many people were injured. To control the situation, police had to resort to lathicharge and also fired tear gas shells.

In the seventh phase, voting was held on 13 seats each in UP and Punjab, 9 in Bengal, 8 in Bihar, 6 in Odisha, 4 in Himachal Pradesh, 3 in Jharkhand and 1 in Chandigarh. Voting was also held for by-elections on the remaining 42 seats of Odisha Assembly and six seats of Himachal Assembly.
