LG Stretchable Display Technology Expand 12 to 18 Inch with High Resolution Full RGB Color Bring Revolution

If you think that foldable display is the latest and most advanced display technology right now, then you should know about LG’s latest prototype. The company has introduced the world’s first stretchable display, which can stretch 50% of its size. The display shown by the company comes in a size of 12-inch and can be stretched up to 18-inch. The most impressive thing is that even after expanding so much, it is capable of maintaining a high resolution of 100 pixels per inch and full RGB color. If it is released after it is fully expanded, the display returns to its original size (12-inch) without any damage.

LG has presented its latest stretchable display prototype to the world, giving a new twist to the definition of flexible display. Presented Which comes in 12-inch size, but it can be expanded up to 50 percent, which means it can be stretched to 18-inch. The company says that the display maintains a high resolution of 100 pixels per inch even when stretched to full capacity. Additionally, it is capable of displaying full RGB colors at its maximum stretch.

LG Display calls it the company’s “ultimate display technology.” The definition of flexible display currently in the market is one or maximum two foldable displays, which we have seen in current foldable smartphones. However, enlarging the display by stretching it like a rubber is a revolution in many ways. LG Display says it can be used in a variety of industries including “fashion, wearables, mobility and gaming.” According to the company, it can also find a place in the automobile and aviation industries.

LG Display initially showed off this display technology in 2020, when it was only stretchable up to 20 percent. At that time the company had told that the quality of the panel is similar to that of a 40-inch 4K TV equipped with 100ppi pixel density.

LG Display has claimed that the prototype can withstand repeated stretching up to 10,000 times. Additionally, the display uses a micro-LED light source measuring just 40 micrometres. It is also said to be capable of withstanding extreme temperatures or external shocks etc.

LG Display says the display is built on a special silicone substrate that is also used for contact lenses. It has micro-LEDs that are connected through S-shaped springs instead of direct wires so that they can expand up to 50 percent without breaking.
