LE 1S Review

LECO (LETV) has also joined the long list of Chinese companies that are trying their luck in the Indian market. The path ahead is not easy for the company. Neither is it the first company to come to India and no matter how much it reduces the prices, it will not be the first company to do so. In-spite of this LE 1S There is a lot interesting in it, especially considering the budget range.

leeco The company hasn’t just focused on great specifications. It has also tried to take into account user preferences, which is evident from the metal body of the LE 1S. Through LE Max, the company tried to compete with other flagship smartphones, although it was not completely successful. LEECO hopes that LE 1S will be liked by more users.

Look and Design
There is a limit to experiment in terms of specifications, so LeEco has tried to provide premium materials and good build quality in the budget smartphone segment. The LE 1S is almost entirely made of metal. Plastic has been used only for the antenna space.

The front face of this handset is quite slim. Black colored glass is around the edges of the display. The front camera and sensor windows are present on either side of the earpiece. Three standard capacitive Android buttons are located at the bottom of the screen. These are backlit. The LE 1S manages to create its own identity.

The primary camera and flash are on one edge of the rear. There is also a fingerprint sensor at the center of the back of the handset. It looks nice, but it is a little slippery. The company has not been able to work on its branding in India at the moment, which is probably why the review unit we received came with the LeTV logo.

The power and volume buttons are on the right side. At the same time, slots for both SIMs are on the left side. Type-C USB port at the bottom. Its disadvantage is that you will not be able to use the USB cable usually available with this handset.

Not everyone will like the gold color variant, but at this time it is the only option on Flipkart. Its grip is good for a phone with 5.5 inch screen, but using it with one hand will be difficult. The weight of LE 1S is 169 grams, but even after using it for a long time, it does not feel heavy in the hands.

Specifications and Software
LeEco has relied on the MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795T) for this handset. This is a powerful chip. To make multitasking easier, there is 3 GB RAM. Sadly, the 32GB storage cannot be expanded via microSD card.

The 5.5-inch screen has a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels, which is common in this price range today. There is a 13-megapixel camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel sensor on the front. The 3000 mAh battery is non-removable. Both SIM card slots will support 4G. It has Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and A-GPS connectivity features. You won’t get FM radio.

The LE 1S runs on the older Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and the company’s EUI skin has been used on top of it. It has its own app drawer and doesn’t have a lot of customization options. The trickiest of all is the shortcuts and quick settings provided in the app switcher screen.

It doesn’t come preloaded with too many apps—you’ll get Yahoo Weather and My LeTV. There are many shortcomings in the software. There is no gesture shot nor can the screen area of its display be reduced through settings.

performance
We enjoyed using the LE 1s on most occasions. It feels good in the hands, but its software experience did not live up to expectations. We were happy that the phone did not get hot even after using it for a long time. A slight warmth can be felt in its rear part.

The screen is bright enough indoors, but not very usable in direct sunlight. The colors are sharp and the viewing angle would be considered satisfactory. The speaker of the smartphone made me very happy.

Photos taken with the primary camera lacked detail and proper exposure, but in most cases the photos were good. Close up shots were the best. The low light pictures were liked at first glance but after zooming the reality came out. If you just want to share the photo on social media then you will not have much problem.

The MediaTek Helio X10 chipset gave good results in benchmark tests. It is clear that this phone will run without any problem in gaming.

In the video loop test, the phone’s battery lasted for 7 hours 51 minutes. This will be called average only. The battery of LE 1S will last for a day. The good thing is that the handset has quick charging feature.

our decision
LECO may have entered the Indian market late, but it is off to a great start. The company claims that it sold 70,000 units in just 2 seconds in the first flash sale. 6,00,000 people had registered for this flash sale. Since the launch of this handset in China, more than 30 lakh units have been sold in just three months. It is clear that there is no dearth in demand for the handset.

This is a great time for Indian consumers with a ‘value for money’ approach. You get a great package with a powerful and great specification. The biggest challenge to this handset is coming from the recently launched Lenovo Vibe K4 Note. This Lenovo smartphone is a bit weak in terms of specifications, but for entertainment you also have the option of buying a VR headset. You may also consider the Moto G (Gen 3) if you’re looking for durability and great software more than looks.

If you are ready to give a chance to a new company and want a premium looking phone then definitely buy this handset. However, keep in mind that even if you get a device like a high-end smartphone in terms of looks and specifications, it may not necessarily have the same performance as a high-end handset.
