‘Khoon Ki Holi’ is played here every year, the sea water turns red, the government has given free rein!

Fishing is not considered a savage act. But in Japan, dolphin hunting appears to be a cruel sport. Thousands of dolphins are mercilessly killed or transported to marine parks during the brutal dolphin hunting season in Taiji, Japan. Claims are made in many ways that due to this the color of the sea becomes completely red. The strange thing is that it cannot be controlled at all because the government allows it for six months. The Japanese Fisheries Agency allows fishermen to kill or snatch about 16,000 marine mammals each year.

The solemn spectacle began in the coastal city earlier this month. According to the Mirror report, US-based charity Dolphin Project says that these fishermen have turned their work into a fine art, and in some days they have been seen bagging more than 100 dolphins.

Criticizing this, a spokesperson for the Dolphin Project explained how it worked: When a group met, fishermen would lower stainless steel poles under their boats into the water. It increases the sound produced when hunters repeatedly hit the poles with hammers. The noise creates a wall of sound underwater, and dolphins find themselves trapped between this wall of sound and the shoreline.

In an attempt to escape the sound, dolphins swim in the opposite direction, towards shore. Fishermen can catch them in a small bay near Taiji Port. This process can take several hours, during which the dolphins become exhausted. Fishermen drive a sharp metal spike into the dolphin’s neck just behind the blowholes, severing the spinal cord and causing instant death.

Japan faced criticism for resuming its commercial whaling activities earlier this year, prompting a similar reaction globally. These claims are also rejected. It is argued that in reality dolphin hunting is not as inhumane as it is being presented.
