Kenya protesters set fire to Parliament police opened fire clash due to new bill

Protest in Kenya: The bill presented in Kenya’s parliament regarding tax hike is being fiercely opposed. On Tuesday, a large number of protesters surrounded Kenya’s parliament. During this, a group of protesters set the parliament on fire. The MPs trapped inside at the time of the incident were evacuated safely with the help of fire brigade and other security agencies. Two people have also died in this fierce protest going on in Kenya.

In fact, on Tuesday itself, before setting fire to the Parliament, policemen in the capital Nairobi had fired on the protesters. Thousands of people are participating in this demonstration, their demand is that the country’s MPs should vote against the new tax rules proposed in the controversial Finance Bill. This demonstration has been going on for a long time, two people died during the demonstration last week. At present, there is no news of any casualties in the demonstration on Tuesday. To treat the injured during the demonstration, the doctors of the country have set up emergency temporary medical camps in many cities. The people of Kenya are donating money and material for these camps.

The price of these items will increase due to the new bill
The protests in Kenya began when lawmakers voted on a bill proposing new taxes. The new taxes include an ‘eco-levy’, which will increase the price of items like sanitary pads and diapers. After the protests intensified, the proposal to tax ‘bread’ was dropped, but protesters are still demanding that the new bill not be passed.

Human Rights Commission took cognizance of the firing
Kenya’s Human Rights Commission on Tuesday shared a video of firing on protesters and said that these officers will be held responsible. The Human Rights Commission has posted against President William Ruto on ‘X’. The commission wrote, ‘The world is watching you moving towards tyranny, democracy has been attacked under your government. All those directly or indirectly involved in firing on protesters should be held accountable.’
