On Wednesday afternoon, Canada’s Public Security Minister Dominic LeBlanc said that Canada will use all the means available to it to combat the terrorist activities of the IRGC. The minister said that thousands of Iranian officials, including IRGC members, have been banned from entering Canada. Those who are already inside the country can be investigated and expelled.
News agency Xinhua quoted a statement in Canada’s Public Safety Press as saying that as a result of this announcement, Canada will have to immediately freeze the assets of the terrorist organization in Canada. Whether that property is in a Canadian bank or in any brokerage, all will have to be frozen. In Canada, it is a crime to have any connection with property owned or controlled by a terrorist organization.

People associated with such groups can be banned from entering Canada. The US had declared the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization in the year 2019 itself. Canada said that Iran has violated human rights both inside and outside the country. It has also expressed its desire to destabilize the international rule-based order. The IRGC was established in Iran 40 years ago to protect the country’s Islamic system and to answer to the regular armed forces. There are reports of close relations between the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Supreme Leader of Iran.
