Jharkhand new Governor: Former Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar was appointed as President Draupadi Murmu has appointed him as the Governor of Jharkhand. Gangwar will replace CP Radhakrishnan, who has been appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra.

CP Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand on 18 February 2023. During his tenure as Governor, there was a confrontation with the Hemant Soren government of Jharkhand on many occasions.

In January this year, the ED arrested Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a money laundering case related to the land scam. After this, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) alleged that the role of the governor in this entire case is suspicious. Soren later targeted the governor in the assembly and said that the governor played an important role in the arrest.

Who is Santosh Kumar Gangwar?

Senior BJP leader Gangwar was elected MP from Bareilly Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh 8 times. He was MP for six consecutive terms from 1989 to 2009. He faced defeat by a narrow margin in the 2009 elections.

He became a minister in the Modi government in 2014

Then Santosh Gangwar was elected MP from 2014 to 2024. In the first term of the Modi government, he became the Minister of State for the first time in the Textile Ministry. He remained a minister till 7 July 2016.

After this he became the Minister of State for Finance. He remained on this post till September 2017. After this he became the Minister of Labor and Employment. He remained on this post till July 2021.

I didn’t get a ticket this time

Santosh Gangwar was a member of the Uttar Pradesh BJP Working Committee and in 1996 he assumed the post of General Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh BJP unit.

of 2024 Lok Sabha Elections In 2015, BJP did not make Santosh Gangwar a candidate. Instead, BJP gave ticket to Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar from Bareilly seat and he won. Chhatrapal was earlier MLA from Baheri assembly seat from 2007 to 2012.
