The High Court gave a big relief to former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. On Friday, the court granted bail to Soren in the money laundering case related to the alleged land scam. After getting bail, Hemant also came out of Birsa Munda Jail in Ranchi on Friday evening. The court had reserved its decision on Soren’s bail plea on June 13.

After Hemant Soren got bail, enthusiasm was seen among party leaders and supporters.

Earlier, Soren’s senior lawyer Arunabh Chaudhary said that Soren has been granted bail. In its order granting bail, the court said that prima facie, he is not guilty and there is no apprehension of the petitioner committing any crime while being released on bail.

Soren, the working president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 in connection with the investigation of a money laundering case. Soren (48) is currently in Birsa Munda Jail. During the hearing, Enforcement Directorate lawyer SV Raju argued that if Soren is released on bail, he will commit similar crimes again.

The investigation is related to 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi

The investigation against Soren is related to 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi, which the ED alleges was illegally taken over. The agency had filed a chargesheet in a special PMLA court here on March 30 against Soren, Prasad and Soren’s alleged ‘frontmen’ Raj Kumar Pahan and Hilarias Kachhap and the former chief minister’s alleged aide Binod Singh. Soren had filed a bail plea before a special court in Ranchi, in which he alleged that his arrest was politically motivated and part of a well-planned conspiracy to force him to join the BJP.
