Before the third phase of voting in Jammu and Kashmir, two terrorists were killed in two encounters in Kulgam and Bilwar area of Kathua on Saturday. One policeman was sacrificed in the operation while six policemen including the SSP were injured. The operation is currently going on in Kathua.
Two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Kulgam, South Kashmir on Saturday morning. Five security personnel including ASP have been injured in the encounter. Both the killed terrorists have been identified as Aaqib Ahmed Shergojri resident of Bonpora (Budgam) and Umais Wani resident of Chawalgam (Kulgam). IGP Kashmir VK Virdi said that late on Friday night, inputs were received about the hiding of two to three terrorists in Arigam area. After this, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army’s Nine Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF personnel conducted a joint search operation. It is being told that when Kulgam ASP Mumtaz Ali Bhatti came to pick up an injured soldier, the terrorists tried to target him also. He was shot on his leg and arm. The injured soldiers have been admitted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar. Everyone’s condition is said to be out of danger. Police have registered the case and started investigation.
Four to five terrorists surrounded in Kathua
Meanwhile, the encounter started on Saturday afternoon in Kohag Mandli area of Bilwar, Kathua. A search operation was conducted on information about the presence of terrorists in a house. During this time, when the cordon became tight, the terrorists started firing. A head constable and an assistant sub-inspector were injured in the initial firing. Both were taken out and sent to the hospital. Meanwhile, head constable Bashir Ahmed died. According to sources, security forces had received information about the presence of terrorists in the area.
At around 12 noon, security forces started cordoning off the areas in Machhedi, Ujj Pul and other areas. Meanwhile, a series of firing started between the security forces and the terrorists. It is believed that four to five terrorists have been surrounded by the security forces. ADGP Anand Jain said that based on the information about the presence of terrorists in the area, a joint search operation was started by the security forces in Kohag, Mandli area of Kathua. Some rounds have been fired from both sides. Additional security forces have also been sent to the area.

The encounter started at some distance from the place where Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s rally was proposed in Billawar. During the search operation being conducted on the information about the presence of terrorists, Priyanka’s helicopter was not allowed to land. Because of this his meeting could not be held there. It is said that the aerial distance from the rally site where the terrorists have been surrounded will be five kilometers.
