Kathua News: A doctor attacked a hospital employee with a knife at the Government Medical Hospital in Kathua district of Jammu. The police have arrested the attacking doctor. There was a sensation when an incident of knife fighting took place in the canteen of the Government Medical College of Kathua district of Jammu on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
According to eyewitnesses, a doctor attacked a junior staff posted at Kathua Medical College with a knife, due to which he was seriously injured. During this attack, when the local youth sitting in the canteen came to his rescue, the doctor also attacked him with a knife.
According to Kathua Police, the name of the accused doctor who carried out this attack is Zahid Abbas and he is a resident of Janipur, Jammu. The accused doctor is posted in Trauma Medical Hospital in Samba district of Jammu. Police also told that the accused doctor has an old enmity with Rahul Kotwal, a junior staff member posted in GMC Kathua. This rivalry is being said to be personal. Police claims that it was due to this rivalry that Dr. Zahid reached Kathua.
Police say that Dr. Zahid had not come alone to Kathua to carry out this attack but he also had some other companions along with him, who are being searched. According to the police, the doctor who carried out this attack has been arrested.
In the initial investigation, the police have come to know that Dr. Zahid went straight to the Government Medical College and sat in the canteen there. After some time, Rahul also reached there and when both of them came face to face, an argument started. Meanwhile, Dr. Zahid attacked Rahul with a knife. Rahul was seriously injured in this attack. During this attack, another youth sitting in the canteen, Vivek, tried to intervene but Dr. Zahid attacked him too.
The hospital staff sat on protest against this attack on a health worker in the Government Medical College, Kathua. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, a team of Katwa police reached Government Medical College, Kathua and additional CRPF personnel were also deployed in the hospital. After this incident that took place in the hospital premises, the employees posted in the hospital started protesting.
The protesting health workers alleged that such an incident in the hospital premises is raising big questions on hospital security. The protesters have demanded imposition of Public Safety Act on the accused doctor. Rahul, who was injured in this attack, is being treated in a hospital in Punjab where his condition is said to be critical.
