New Delhi. R Ashwin, who made headlines by scoring an unbeaten century on his home ground, says that he had made a strategy of aggressive batting like Rishabh Pant on the Chennai pitch. Ashwin scored an unbeaten 102 runs in the first innings of the Chennai Test against Bangladesh. Right-handed batsman Ashwin said that he deliberately tried to bat aggressively on the red soil pitch prepared for the first Test. His strategy worked and due to this he was successful in taking India out of a difficult situation by scoring a brilliant century in front of the home crowd.
R Ashwin, while talking to the official broadcast after the end of the first day’s play of the India-Bangladesh (IND vs BAN) first Test, said, ‘This is an old Chennai pitch which has a little bounce. On a red soil pitch, if you are willing to come in line and play shots, you can play some shots. Of course, I have always been swinging my bat outside the off stump. I worked on some things and if you want to hit shots on the ball on this kind of pitch, then you should bat aggressively like Rishabh Pant.’

Rishabh Pant got out on a loose stroke
Rishabh Pant batted well by scoring 52 runs in 39 balls but was dismissed on a loose stroke. India lost the top four batsmen within 96 runs. After this, Ashwin dominated the Bangladesh bowlers and scored a century in 112 balls, scoring an unbeaten 102 runs and made an unbeaten partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (86 not out). Ashwin attributed his excellent performance to his recent performance in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) where he worked on his batting.
‘I worked on my batting’
Ashwin said, ‘I have come here after playing a T20 tournament, which helped me. I worked on my batting. Playing in front of home crowd is always a special feeling. I like playing cricket on this ground. It has given me many great memories.’Ashwin acknowledged the support of his partner Jadeja during the challenging phase of the innings and said, ‘Jadeja really helped a lot. There was a time when I was sweating and I was a little tired. But Jaddu immediately realized it and guided me. Jaddu has been one of our best batsmen for the team in the last few years. His presence was a relief because he advised that we do not have to convert two runs into three runs, which was really helpful for me.’ India has scored 339 runs for 6 wickets on the first day.
