New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the slogan of self-reliant India. The agriculture sector can also make a big contribution in achieving this goal provided the farmer adopts integrated farming. A single farmer can not only increase his income by doing many types of work on his farm but can also help in the progress of the country. Today we are telling you the story of a farmer from Jaipur who has given a new dimension to farming by adopting this IFS model.

What is Integrated Farming-Any farmer can earn profit throughout the year through this. In this system, the leftover products and residues from one component can be used for the other component. If you do poultry farming, then you can feed the poultry waste to the fish. This will increase the number of fish, which will give profit and secondly the water of that pond can be used for irrigation. If animal husbandry is also done along with this, good profit can be earned by selling cow and buffalo milk.

Let’s visit the farm of farmer Surendra Awana
Progressive farmer Surendra Awana of Bichoon village near Jaipur is giving a new dimension to farming. On one hand, while the farmers of the country are gradually moving away from farming saying that they cannot make a living from farming, on the other hand, Surendra Awana is suggesting a way to earn many times more profit from farming by adopting the IFS model of farming i.e. Integrated Farming System. The government is also urging farmers to adopt integrated farming instead of relying only on traditional farming.

Integrated farming means adopting other farming activities along with farming so that the cost of farming can be reduced and income can be increased. A big advantage of adopting integrated farming is that if for some reason there is no income from one work, then the other work can be used for livelihood.

Increasing income by doing many types of farming simultaneously

Surendra Awana does modern farming along with gardening, medicinal farming, dairy, fish farming and fertilizer production on his farm. Since all these works are interconnected, the cost is reduced. For example, fodder for animals is grown in the farm itself. Animal waste is used to make fertilizer. Similarly, food for fish is also available from the farm and dairy. Surendra Awana is growing 18 types of fodder on his farm. This perennial fodder will generate income for 5 to 80 years. Not only this, Awana is also demonstrating farming of apple, almond and strawberry in Marudhara along with traditional farming.

There is huge demand for A2 milk
Along with farming, Awana has raised about 170 indigenous Gir cows while running a dairy business on a large scale. The A2 milk of this indigenous cow is in great demand and is sold at very high prices. The cow urine and dung produced from the dairy is used as fertilizer in farming. He has set up a plant on the farm to prepare and sell organic fertilizer. Organic produce prepared using organic fertilizer also fetches higher prices.

Government also provides subsidy for fish farming. The demand for fish is also high and the price is also high. At the same time, the importance of medicinal farming has also increased during the Corona period. Surendra Awana has also started medicinal farming and hopes to earn big profits from it in the future. Farmer Surendra Awana says that the government’s target is to double the income of farmers by the year 2022, but income can be multiplied manifold through integrated farming. Farmers and agricultural scientists from all over the country come to see this successful model of Surendra Awana.
