Indian women’s team could not score 21 runs in the last over, bowler turned the tables, Jemima’s half century wasted

New Delhi. The Indian women’s cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur has suffered defeat in the first T20. The visiting South Africa defeated the hosts in the last over. Chasing the target of 190 runs set by South Africa, India scored 177 runs for 4 wickets. South Africa scored a big score with the help of half-centuries from Tajmin Brits (81 runs) and Marijne Kapp (57 runs). Brits faced 56 balls and hit 10 fours and three sixes in her innings while Kapp hit eight fours and a six in her 33-ball innings.

After being invited to bat, South Africa (IND w vs SA w) set a challenging score of 189 runs. In response, the Indian team could only score 177 runs for four wickets despite a half-century by Jemima Rodrigues (53 not out). Openers Shefali Verma (18 runs) and Smriti Mandhana (46 runs) gave India a good start by sharing 56 runs for the first wicket. But Ayabonga Khaka gave the first blow by dismissing Shefali.

Jemima and Harmanpreet shared a 90 run partnership
Mandhana was playing well but Chloe Tryon’s ball took the edge of her bat and went into the wicketkeeper’s hands and India lost their second wicket. Dayalan Hemalatha (14 runs) could not bat for long and fell prey to Nadine de Klerk after playing 17 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (35 runs) was dismissed on the last ball of the innings by N Malaba, ending the 90-run partnership in 59 balls for the fourth wicket between her and Rodrigues (30 balls, seven fours, one six) and the team lost by 12 runs.

India made its highest score against South Africa
Earlier, South Africa’s opener Brits and captain Laura Wolvaardt (33 runs) made a cautious start and shared a 50-run partnership in 43 balls, which led the team towards a competitive score. The 189 runs scored in this innings is also their highest score against India in T20 International.
