New Delhi. Former New Zealand fast bowler Simon Doull blamed India’s defeat in the Test series on the weakness of its batsmen in playing spin bowling. But he refused to accept star batsman Virat Kohli as paid. With the help of 13 wickets from left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, the Kiwi team defeated India by 113 runs in the second Test match on Saturday 26 October and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
“It is a misconception that Indian batsmen are better players of spin,” Doull told PTI in a video. I think they have better spinners and they are able to expose the weaknesses of the opposition batsmen. But in this Test (Pune), Mitchell Santner exposed their batsmen a bit by performing brilliantly.
He said, “I think you will get used to playing on such good wickets.” But when the pitch starts turning, your weakness gets exposed. India has been playing on turning wickets for a long time. He still has the world’s best spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
Doull said, “Their bowlers are capable of bowling out other teams on low scores but in this Test match, New Zealand’s bowlers did not allow their batsmen to run whereas our team does not have a world class spin bowling attack. Therefore, this will be a matter of concern to some extent for India. There are some issues against spin but he is not the only batsman who has not been able to play the spinners well. You will not get such wickets in Australia and Kohli will perform well there. ,
He further said, “People say that Rohit can be a bit defensive but it depends on the performance of the bowlers. They have experienced spin bowlers. If you can’t trust Ashwin or Jadeja to set up your own fielding, you can’t blame Rohit for it all the time. I think the bowlers will also have to play some role in this.
