Counterpoint’s monthly India smartphone tracker Report It shows that smartphone sales in the country have increased by 3 percent on an annual basis in the third quarter of 2024. The price of smartphones has increased by 12 percent on an annual basis. Samsung is on top with 23 percent market share. The main reason for this is the inclusion of Galaxy AI features in mid-range phones and affordable premium models in the A series.
Apple stood second in terms of smartphone market value share. The iPhone maker shipped iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models ahead of the festive season. With this it has achieved 21.6 percent market share. Vivo is at third place with 15.5 percent market share. Oppo and Xiaomi are at fourth and fifth positions respectively. Oppo had 10.8 percent market share, while Xiaomi got 8.7 percent market share.
Remember that we are not talking about India’s smartphone market, but India’s smartphone shipments, which means smartphones manufactured in India which were sent to other countries.
In terms of volume share, Vivo secured the top position with 19 percent share. After that is Xiaomi’s number. Samsung, Oppo and Realme are at third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. Counterpoint reports that Carl Pei’s Nothing was the fastest-growing smartphone brand for the third consecutive quarter, registering a 510 percent year-on-year growth in shipments during the quarter. This brand has come in the top 10 for the first time in the UK.
