India Defence Exports : India has progressed rapidly in exporting weapons. Earlier India used to import the most weapons, but now the situation has changed. Economic Survey 2024 revealed that India has sold Brahmos missiles, Pinaka rockets and cannons to 85 countries. Those who buy weapons include Armenia and Philippines, Italy, Maldives, Russia, Sri Lanka, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Egypt, Israel and Spain Chile. It is also sending cannonballs to these countries. According to the report, India’s defense production in the financial year 2017 was Rs 74,054 crore, which has increased to Rs 1,08,684 crore in 2023. Between 2015 and 2019, India was the second largest weapon-buying country in the world, but now it has joined the top 25 arms exporting countries.
Government is getting benefit of these schemes
In fact, the Government of India launched several schemes to promote defense exports under the Self-reliant India campaign, in which many incentives including PLI are being given. Recently, the government also approved the export of many weapons. According to the data, more than 100 companies are exporting weapons and equipment. These include many types of equipment including Dornier 228 aircraft, cannons, Brahmos missile, Akash missile, Pinaka rocket system, body armor, helmets, ammunition, radar, cannon balls. HAL company is supplying the most aircraft, which is also getting benefits.
A message was also given to China
At the same time, the fighter jet Tejas manufactured in India is also going to be supplied abroad, in which many countries have shown interest. Apart from this, the Indian company HAL has also exported many helicopters. India is giving weapons to countries like Armenia and Philippines. By giving Brahmos missile to the Philippines, India has also given a message to China.
