India-Nepal Tension: As soon as the pro-China Oli government was formed in Nepal, the issue of India-Nepal border dispute has once again become hot. Nepal’s new Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called the area east of the Mahakali river, including Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, Kalapani, as his own. He said that the India-Nepal border dispute will be resolved through diplomatic mechanisms. Oli said that Kathmandu is clear and firm about its international borders.
KP Sharma Oli was answering questions from MPs on Monday, a day after winning the trust vote in the House of Representatives. During this, he said that the government is firm and clear that according to the Sugauli Treaty of 1816, Limpiyadhura, Kalapani, Lipulekh and the areas east of the Mahakali river belong to Nepal. Oli said that the federal parliament and the government are clear and firm about the country’s international borders."text-align: justify;">Oli will solve the border dispute diplomatically
Oli said that through the second amendment of the Constitution in the year 2017, Nepal has adopted a new map regarding international borders. He said that this has been mentioned in its Annex 3, along with this, an unprecedented consensus has been reached in our country regarding international borders. Oli said that during the meetings of the Prime Ministers of both the countries, an agreement has been reached to resolve the border dispute diplomatically. KP Sharma Oli said that ‘The seventh meeting of the Nepal-India Foreign Minister level Joint Commission was held on January 4. During this, issues related to the Nepal-India border were discussed and it was said to complete the pending works on the remaining parts of the Nepal-India border soon.’
Nepal released a new map in the year 2020
In fact, tensions between the two countries had increased after the new map released by Kathmandu regarding international borders in the year 2020. In this map, three Indian territories – Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulekh were shown as part of Nepal. This map of Nepal was rejected by India at that time. Also, the Ministry of External Affairs of India said that ‘Nepal’s claims are not based on historical facts and evidence.’
