New DelhiThe series is out of hand but all eyes are on a batsman of Team India who is preparing for the battle to save the reputation. This batsman is Yashasvi Jaiswal. This explosive left-handed opener can make a big record in his name at Wankhede ground. Those Indians had come very close to this record on the ground of Pune and now everyone is waiting for those two sixes which will put Yashasvi ahead of McCullum.

McCullum had hit 33 sixes in the 2014 cricket season. Since then no one has come close to this record. In 2022, Ben Stokes came close to this record with 26 sixes but could not break it. The list of people who hit the most sixes in a calendar year is as follows

33 – Brendon McCullum (2014)
32 – Yashasvi Jaiswal (2024)
26 – Ben Stokes (2022)
22 – Adam Gilchrist (2005)
22 – Virender Sehwag (2008)
21 – Andrew Flintoff (2004)
21 – Ben Stokes (2016)
21 – Rishabh Pant (2022)

Yashasvi’s fame is spreading from the first match

Yashasvi made his Test debut against West Indies in July 2023. He has also made the record of hitting most sixes in an innings for India. In the second innings of the Test match played against England in Rajkot in February 2024, he hit 12 sixes during his innings of 214 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal also holds the record of maximum number of 35 sixes in the World Test Championship.

Jaiswal continues to shine

The stylish left-handed batsman also completed 1000 runs during the Pune Test match. In this way, he has become the first Indian player under the age of 23 to complete 1000 Test runs in a calendar year. As far as overall record is concerned, he has become the 5th batsman in the world to achieve this feat. Apart from West Indies’ Gary Sobers, England’s Alastair Cook, the names of two legendary South African players Graeme Smith and AB de Villiers are included in this list. It is expected that Jaiswal will not only break the record but will also play a big role in helping the team win the Mahabharata of Mumbai.
