In IPL 2024, a sixer is being hit on every 13th ball, double the number of sixes hit since 2009, a new record is going to be made.

New Delhi. The manner in which sixes were rained in IPL 2024 has never happened before in the history of this tournament. Currently only 57 matches have been played in the tournament, but the number of sixes has crossed 1000. Krunal Pandya of Lucknow Supergiants hit the thousandth six of the tournament. He hit this six on the ball of Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat. Abhishek Sharma has hit the maximum number of 35 sixes in IPL 2024. The record for hitting most sixes in the tournament is in the name of Dinesh Karthik (108 metres).

This is the third consecutive year in IPL when the number of sixes has crossed 1000. When IPL started in 2008, 622 sixes were hit in the first season. According to Cricinfo, after this, 509 sixes were hit in 2009 and 585 sixes in 2010. These were the only two years (2009-10) in IPL when the number of sixes was less than 600.

For the first time in IPL 2022, the number of sixes crossed 1000. 1062 sixes were hit in 74 matches played this year. That means on an average the batsman got six runs on every 16th ball. In the year 2023, this number of sixes reached 1124. This year a six was hit on every 15th ball.
