Heavy rains are continuing in many states including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Roads are closed due to landslides in hilly states due to rain, while roads are flooded in plain states. Telephone lines have broken in Arunachal Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rains for the next four days in 18 states and union territories of North West and Northeast India including Delhi.
The Meteorological Department said that there is a cyclonic circulation over north-east Rajasthan, eastern and north-western Uttar Pradesh. Due to this, many parts of Himachal, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan received heavy rains on Saturday. The monsoon has advanced to some more areas in eastern and western Uttar Pradesh and will reach the entire country in two days.
According to the Meteorological Department, all the states of Northeast including Assam, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and parts of West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu are also receiving heavy rains. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in these states till July 3. Moderate to heavy rains along with thunderstorms are forecast in Delhi for the next seven days.
