IAS Pooja Khedkar Fraud Case: The Pune Police has sent a report to the Maharashtra government regarding the marital status of the parents of controversial trainee IAS officer Pooja Khedkar. An official gave information in this regard on Friday (July 26). The couple, Dilip and Manorama Khedkar, were legally separated, the police official told the media without giving further details.
According to a PTI report, the central government had directed the Pune police to inform Pooja’s parents about her marriage status as they were accused of fraudulently taking advantage of the OBC non-creamy layer category in the UPSC exam.
The official said, “We sent the report to the state government on Wednesday and it will be sent to the Centre.” Pooja Khedkar, a 2023 batch IAS officer, was accused of misusing power and privileges by demanding VIP facilities. A criminal case was registered against her in Delhi last week for allegedly making misrepresentations and falsifying facts during her training in Pune.
Union Public Service Commission (Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC)) has also issued a show cause notice regarding cancellation of her candidature for the 2022 exam and is considering banning her from future examinations. Khedkar, who secured layer quota in the UPSC exam to avail the benefit of Other Backward Classes (OBC) non-creamy layer, reportedly claimed that her parents were separated and she was living with her mother.
According to the rules, the non-creamy layer category can be availed only by those candidates whose parents’ annual income is less than Rs 8 lakh. Manorama Khedkar is currently in jail for threatening a man with a gun over a land dispute in 2023. Retired government official Dilip Khedkar is also an accused in the case and was granted anticipatory bail by a Pune court on Thursday.
