The win has molded Rahul Gandhi into a strong leader. His efforts, steps like Bharat Jodo Yatra and the appointment of Malikarjun Kharge, helped the voters to choose Congress.

What does this mean for BJP?

This year a southern state election will not only decide the fate of the local nation but will also play a significant role in the upcoming elections.

For BJP, the outcome was not favourable even after the extreme efforts of the ex-chief minister Basavaraj Bommai. However, this loss will not only decide their authority over Karnataka but also affect the upcoming general elections of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, which will be held this year. The result will cause problems for BJP leaders Vsundra Raje in Rajasthan and Shivraj Singh Chauhan in Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his twitter to congratulate the Congress Party for their thumping win, here is what PM wrote;

Who will be the next chief minister of Karnataka?

Now that Congress will lead the Karnataka state, the question is who will be the state’s next chief minister. However, a row of potential candidates is lined up featuring DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaihah, a former chief minister of Karnataka. Earlier, Siddaramaihah announced that this election would be his last.

The former CM has been a loyal member of the party. On the other hand, the eight-time MLA DK Shivakumar is one of the most affluent and influential politicians. While both potential candidates are emotional about leading their party, there is still a chance for G Parameshwara to take the lead as well.

Possible reasons why BJP lost the election?

While there are many reasons for the party to lose elections, some of the significant incidents that led to a change in the course of power in Karnataka may include;

  • Muslim support for the Congress party: The ongoing Hindutva conflict has made the Congress win easy
  • The power combination of DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah: Congress party did not only step with the campaigns but also boosted their political ties
  • The Congress’s task to win the election became more accessible when the BJP’s BS Yediyurappa announced that he was off electoral politics.
