If you adore Cristiano Ronaldo and reside in India, then great news is waiting for you this morning.

How do teams qualify for the Asian Federation Confederation Champions League?

The AFC Champions League, the most important competition in Asian Football. Each season the best teams out of the various leagues in Asia qualify for this prolific competition. This season it was the same until a global superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was involved.

Ronaldo, who plays for Al-Nassr FC currently in Saudi Arabia, is seeing a decline in his team’s performance. The team is now chasing the title for the Saudi Pro League from Al-Ittihad.

Last season, however, Al Nassr could not qualify for the AFC Champions League.

This season, Al Nassr has to win the Saudi Pro League or the King’s Cup to ensure a place in the AFC Champions League, the top tier of Asian club football. But, unfortunately, they already lost the King’s Cup and are on the verge of missing out on the League title since it’s just three games left, and they are 5 points behind.

It was great hype when Ronaldo faced a mighty lined-up PSG in a friendly encounter at the start of this season.

How can Ronaldo still come to India and play?

But, then, how can Ronaldo still come to India and play in the AFC Cup? Well, the answer is Yes. Al-Shabab, who were supposedly qualified for this tournament, are now ineligible to make it to the games. The reason for this is the grant of the Asian license.

In the latest tweet from Saudi Pro League’s Official Twitter handle, here’s what was said;

“The Licensing Committee of the Saudi Professional League Association grants 8 clubs the Asian license.”

This means Al-Shabab can no longer play in this competition, paving the way for Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr to start planning their strategies for AFC Cup. Since India and Saudi Arabia fall in the West zone of the competition, they are likely to face each other’s best teams in the Championship.

This news has brought immense joy among Indian Football Fans. This would be the second occasion after Lionel Messi had once visited and played in India. But all of this holds good if and only if Ronaldo stays with Al Nassr after the end of this season. So we must wait and watch as you never know his next moves.
