Himachal Pradesh Bypoll 2024: Voting is to be held in three assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh on July 10. The results of the by-elections to be held on three seats will be declared on July 13. The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced its candidates on all three seats. Congress also announced its candidates on two seats on Monday. After the announcement of the names of Hardeep Bawa from Nalagarh and Pushpinder Verma from Hamirpur assembly constituency, the ticket in Dehra assembly constituency has been kept on hold for the time being.
There is a discussion about Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, contesting from this seat. The Chief Minister’s wife’s maternal home is in Jaswan Pargpur, adjacent to Dehra, and there is a discussion about her contesting from Dehra. Earlier, there was a lot of discussion about Kamlesh Thakur contesting from Hamirpur parliamentary constituency as well.
Congress has not won here till date
Congress has not been able to win in Dehra assembly constituency till date. After the existence of this seat, the desire of Congress to win here is still unfulfilled. In the year 2012, BJP’s Ravindra Singh Ravi defeated Congress’s Viplav Thakur. After this, Hoshiar Singh won as an independent candidate in the year 2017. After this, in the year 2022 also, he won the election as an independent candidate by defeating Ramesh Chand of BJP. Now he is contesting on a BJP ticket in the by-election held in the year 2024 and the Congress candidate is awaited. In the year 2022, Dr. Rajesh Sharma contested on a Congress ticket. Now it is possible that Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, may contest from here.

Recently, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu had reached the program of Himachal Pradesh University. It is noteworthy that till date in the history of Himachal Pradesh Assembly, the wife of any Chief Minister, Minister or sitting MLA has never contested elections for the same assembly. However, before this, the wife of the then Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh used to contest Lok Sabha elections, but at that time Virbhadra Singh used to be a member of the Assembly and not the Lok Sabha.
