Damoh: Ancient traditions are still alive in Bundelkhand of Madhya Pradesh. One of these traditions is that of Hardaul Akhara, where after the death of the Guru, his disciples follow the Bundelkhandi tradition and demonstrate their swordsmanship and wrestling skills in front of the dead body. A similar incident was seen in Bajariya Ward No. 2 of Damoh.
Renowned senior wrestler and Mahant Pandit Ramchandra Pathak, resident of Bajaria, passed away after a prolonged illness. Pandit Ramchandra Pathak was the Ustaad of Hardaul Akhara, therefore, the disciples of the Akhara paid tribute to him by demonstrating sword, vaneti, axe and chakra art in front of the Ustaad’s body as per Bundelkhandi tradition. The eyes of the people present there became moist.
A very unique tradition
According to the Bundelkhandi tradition of Hardaul Akhara, the disciples perform akhada in front of the pyre while bidding their guru a final farewell at Muktidham. You may have never seen this tradition before, but it is true. Following this tradition of Bundelkhand, the disciples of Hardaul Akhara bid a final farewell to 84-year-old Ustaad Pt. Ramchandra Pathak at Muktidham on his demise. This tradition is a unique custom of Bundelkhand, in which the disciples perform such unique performances on the demise of their guru.
Last salute to the Guru
Narendra Dubey, who participated in the funeral procession, said that this tradition is very unique. The last salute of the disciples to their Guru is amazing and unique. At the same time, local resident Monty Rakwar also gave his last farewell to his Guru by following the Bundeli tradition. He also performed Hardaul Akhara in front of his pyre.
