Gujarat tops in providing better ecosystem to startups, wins for second consecutive year – News18 Hindi

New Delhi. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on Friday released the ranking of states providing better ecosystem to startups. In this ranking, Gujarat has once again emerged as the best performing state. The performance of Gujarat has been the best among all the states and one union territory Delhi. Except Assam, all other North-Eastern states and Union Territories other than Delhi have been kept in a separate category. Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been the best performer in this category.

22 states and 3 union territories participated in it
Releasing the ranking on Friday, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said that 22 states and 3 union territories have participated in it. This ranking has been decided on the basis of providing a better ecosystem to budding entrepreneurs to establish startups. According to the ranking framework released in 2019, 30 points are given on the basis of improvement in seven areas. This time the states have been ranked by dividing them into two categories ‘Y’ and ‘X’. Y category includes all union territories except Assam and Delhi. All other states and union territories have been included in the X category. Andaman and Nicobar Islands have become the best performer in Y category.


Goyal said that the ‘fund of funds’ is supporting them in terms of funding startups and many PSUs are coming forward with creating dedicated funds for startups. He also gave a message to the startups and said that they should focus on the three ‘P’s: Product, Process and People to promote self-reliant India.

DPIIT Secretary Guruprasad Mahapatra said on the occasion that the department has so far identified 36,000 startups. He said that all the states are working to promote new budding entrepreneurs. He said that due to the start of startup work in the country and creation of favorable environment, four lakh employment opportunities have been created. In the ranking, states and union territories have been classified into five categories.

States performing better after Gujarat
After Gujarat, the better performing states have been Bihar, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Chandigarh. Haryana, Jharkhand, Punjab, Telangana, Uttarakhand and Nagaland have been included in the aspiring leader category. Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Mizoram and Sikkim have been ranked among the states with emerging startup ecosystem.
