Sources say that there may be an announcement of connecting small cities with railway lines in Budget 2024. The focus in the budget will be on cities with a population of 50,000 to 1 lakh. Apart from this, an increase of 18-19 percent is expected in the railway budget. An allocation of 2.9 -3.0 lakh crores is possible for railways in the budget. Apart from this, the track with a speed of 160 km will be expanded.

In the interim budget, the Finance Minister had allocated Rs 2 lakh 55 thousand crore for Indian Railways. In the upcoming budget, this allocation may increase by 18-19 percent. It may now be around Rs 2.9-3.0 lakh crore. Sources say that the budget will focus on increasing the number of high-speed trains. For this, other tracks like Delhi-Mumbai will be identified and upgraded. Apart from this, the budget may focus on dedicated freight corridors. For this, a decision can be taken to build dedicated freight corridors on the basis of commodity. This means that a corridor will be built through which only metal goods will be transported. Or a corridor will be built through which only energy-related commodities will be transported.

These can be the focus in the budget

The upcoming Union Budget 2024-25 for Indian Railways may focus more on increasing passenger capacity and safety on the railway network. The government’s entire focus in the budget will be on the conversion of passenger trains like Amrit Bharat Express trains. For this year, the government has set a target of operating around 25 Amrit Bharat trains on its network. Currently a total of 2 trains are running.

At the same time, the Railway Ministry has also set a target to start 250 more such trains in the next 5 to 7 years. The prototype of the Vande Bharat Sleeper version is expected to be launched by August 15. This train was announced in the Union Budget 2023-24. The Vande Bharat Sleeper version will cover long distance and overnight travel.

This year the Railway Ministry is expected to introduce more than two dozen Vande Bharat chair car version trains. Currently more than 100 services of these high-speed trains run in several states. Vande Metro which will gradually replace the existing suburban trains or local trains is likely to start very soon. The government will also focus more on the implementation of the indigenously developed automatic train protection system Kavach. The national transport wants to implement 4500 km of rail route under Kavach by this financial year.
