Expansion

The government has blacklisted several companies that send fake SMS. Fraudsters used these companies to send more than 10 thousand fraudulent messages in the last three months.

The Department of Telecommunications, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, took this action to protect people from SMS fraud. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) provided information that fraudsters are sending fraudulent messages to commit cyber crime. More than 10 thousand fraudulent messages were sent using these eight companies. The companies owning these headers have been blacklisted. Also, 73 SMS headers and 1522 SMS templates used by the blacklisted companies have also been blocked. Now no telecom operator will be able to use any of these SMS headers and SMS templates. This action taken under the Sanchar Saathi program aims to protect citizens from SMS fraud.

Appeal to use the eye facility available on Sanchar Saathi

An official of the Telecom Department said that the companies against which action has been taken were involved in fraud for a long time. According to the ministry, if anyone receives a suspicious message, he should immediately inform through the Chakshu facility available on Sanchar Sathi. This will make it easier to take action against people and companies involved in cyber crime.

Prohibition on use of mobile numbers for telemarketing

Apart from this, the government has banned the use of mobile numbers for telemarketing. If any person uses his mobile phone to send promotional messages, it will be disconnected. Also, his name and address will be blacklisted for two years. Only numbers of 180 and 140 series can be used for telemarketing calls. 10 digit mobile numbers are banned for marketing. If you want to report any fraud, you can dial 1909. You can also use the Do Not Disturb (DND) service.
